This SPOTD tale does contain some very minor spoilers for the movie “Gone In Sixty Seconds”, so I am inserting some spoiler space, for those that do not wish to read any further until they have seen the movie. I am not going to give away anything more than what is indicated in the trailer, but still, rather than face abuse for committing a sin I hate happening to me, tis easier to warn up front.

When Di and I went to see this movie, we ended up in a fairly empty large cinema. Seeing the empty seat beside me, the designated fool moved in to claim the SPOTD award.
The basic premise behind the movie (and this is the spoiler I warned about) is that Nicolas Cage plays a car thief who has to steal 50 cars in one night, the vast majority of which are luxury vehicles – Porsche, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Mercedes. While there is no doubt that these are indeed sleek looking pieces of machinery, the guy sitting beside me felt that the general script was not sufficient. As a result, we gained a continuous stream of comments about the cars on screen as he spoke to nobody in particular.
Rather like Pavlov’s dog and the bell, this fellow reacted to the appearance of any luxury vehicle on-screen with a low “Whhoooar! Look at that car!” – something that is guaranteed to irritate after a short period of time. Honestly, we could have sat there with our eyes closed and still known about every scene in which a luxury car appeared during the film. For the majority of the movie, actors on-screen had to compete with my seat neighbour getting aroused by the props – “Whhoooar! Look at that car!” … “Whhoooar! Look at that car!” … “Whhoooar! Look at that car!”
Now, you will recall that there were 50 cars that had to be stolen. Mercifully, some of the vehicles were not shown being thieved, and sometimes multiple cars were stolen simultaneously. However, some of the cars appeared in a few different scenes, thereby taking this fellow’s comment to roughly the 50 mark anyway.
So, in the spirit of his efforts, “Whhoooar! Look at that SPOTD!”
